Abstract

In Mexico, freight transport represents a fundamental element within the supply chain; however, it faces several challenges that affect its efficiency and security, with cargo theft being one of the most significant issues, generating economic losses, distribution disruptions, and constant risks for operators. The objective of this study is to analyze the impact of cargo theft on transport operations and on operators’ Working conditions. A mixed-method approach with a descriptive scope was applied, using the DMAIC methodology, which included tools such as problem definition through document analysis, measurement through surveys applied to 35 operators, cause analysis using cause-and-effect diagrams and data review, improvement based on route optimization proposals and monitoring technology, and control through performance indicators. The results identified as main causes poor route planning, lack of monitoring technology, long working hours, and limited training in Security, factors that increase vulnerability to Theft. It is concluded that it is necessary to implement comprehensive strategies to strengthen Transport Security, improve working conditions, and promote the use of technological tools in order to reduce risks and increase efficiency in Mexico’s logistics sector.
